CROSS-CULTURAL GAME RECEPTION

For my undergraduate thesis, I used AI-assisted coding to build a multilingual research pipeline and examine how gender narratives, audience values and media framing shaped the global reception of a Chinese game.

  • 6,607-comment corpus
  • Five-platform comparison
  • AI-assisted Python workflow
  • Eight-media framing analysis

I collected and cleaned 6,607 public comments from Steam China, Bilibili, Steam Global, YouTube and ResetEra, then combined language detection, sentiment analysis, bilingual keyword dictionaries and close reading in a Python and Google Colab workflow.

The study developed a three-layer model connecting textual design, audience response and mediating discourse. It showed how translation choices and international media frames can shape the way a cultural product is understood overseas.

I translated the findings into practical recommendations for narrative design, localization, bilingual press communication and international release strategy. The results are descriptive and exploratory rather than predictive.
